Growth

This piece was for the group exhibit “The Island”, October 2022, at KalawakanSpacetime Gallery.

Growth. Found objects, wire, epoxy, acrylic epoxy. 2022.

Time , storms, or “inhabitants” in the island contribute changes in its landscape, but there are things in the island that will remain the same.

One of the lines in the artist brief was, “What can you find in your island?” For this piece, I used found objects which represent what (I think) at are at my core, and built wire coral around them. Objects used were: a brush (that need to create), a St. Benedict medal (a high school motto – Ora et Labora – which I try to live by, a clenched upright fist sawed off from an old sculpture (Tumindig; I am passive by nature but there are certain things I stand up to), and a cassette tape (memories/nostalgia, a love of music, and the quirks of the generation I identify with).
