The Dream, Tiger Cat, and That Meme

Pinto Art Museum’s 2023 yearend group exhibit was “Homage To Rousseau” and we were asked to come up with works inspired by Henri Rousseau and his art.

My piece was inspired by two of Henri Rousseau’s works, “The Dream” and “The Tiger Cat“, plus the viral meme showing two women yelling and a cat in front of a plate of veggies.

The Dream, The Tiger Cat, and That Meme. Stainless steel frame, screens, wire, spray paint.(Diptych) Two 24×18 in. 2023.

Words from Pinto Museum’s founder and President, Dr. Joven Cuanang:

In these times, when our world is shaken by man’s inhumanity to man, as seen in the cruel destruction brought by ongoing wars, famine and the wanton degradation of our environment, let us find time to heal with the beauty bestowed upon all of us by art and nature.

“NOTHING MAKES ME SO HAPPY AS TO OBSERVE NATURE AND TO PAINT WHAT I SEE”, is a famous quote from Henri Rousseau, and this exhibit is a tribute to this post-impressionist painter who exalted the innate connectedness of nature and humankind as a cure to the ills that degrade us in chains of ignominy.

Let us then, rediscover this goodness with the passionate creations of these artists, to regain our equanimity.

Pintô, which opens doors to the beauty of our world, invites you to view these artists’ offerings to celebrate the glory that we may lose if these forces of darkness continue to consume us.

Art and nature heal.

From all of us in the Pinto family.

Your servant,

Joven R. Cuanang
